At one of those middle schools, Van Antwerp, most students are routinely expected to walk or bike home on their own, because it is located in a very pedestrian-friendly community. The other school, Iroquois, is not so favorably located, so almost all students take the bus, but I believe their parents have the option of signing permission slips to allow them to walk or bike home.

Moreover, our community has a group of highly energetic parents who have created quite a large movement to promote children walking or biking to school in groups whenever possible. They even provide periodic group escorts for the timid and tentative. It's part of a national movement.

http://www.walktoschool-usa.org/who/seecity.cfm?st=NY&city=NiskayunaMary O'Keeffehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14662977706706048151noreply@blogger.com
